Great wide bottom to prevent it from tipping over. In the early days of sailing ships sea captain's cabin was usually meagerly furnished; however an essential element was always present; his personal whiskey decanter. To guard against tipping over in rough seas the decanter was designed with a very wide base.
As far as age I know that my mother-in-law got this in 1977. While this is very like the Waterford Diamond decanters I have seen listed I don't know the pattern name or makers name. Maybe if someone knows anything about this pattern they can let me know. It measures 7 inches across the bottom and stands 7 3/4 inches high to the top of the neck, 11 3/4inches high to the top of the stopper when in place. Stopper by itself measures 4 1/2 inches high and 2 1/4 inches thick.
It weighs 3 pound 7 ounces unpacked then add on the the 5 glasses. This will make an excellent addition to your Crystal collection. The item "Vintage Crystal Diamond Cut ship's Captain Whiskey Decanter Set / 5 Glasses" is in sale since Friday, September 15, 2017.
